Can You Change The pH Of Your Soil?
It is possible to alter the pH of your soil - although on a large scale this can prove time consuming, expensive and is only a temporary measure! However, it is quite common for vegetable growers to improve the pH of their soil to make it more neutral by 'liming". In your garden, if the soil isn’t suitable for the plants you want to grow then you could fit raised beds or use containers – these enable you to create an ‘oasis’ of soil to suit particular plants at minimum effort or expense.
Why Measure The pH?
By getting to know the pH of your soil – whether in your garden or at your allotment – you can save lots of time energy and money! You can now grow or buy the plants to suit the soil you have – rather than planting something in an acid soil which prefers an alkaline soil or vice versa, which will usually result in the plant failing to grow. |
