Our Popular Cold Frames have been designed and manufactured at Two Wests to create an efficient suntrap, with the sloping top enabling the back of the cold frame to be used for subjects that need height and the front for seed trays, bedding plants, lettuce etc.
Frame - strong, rust-proof, maintenance-free aluminium. Lightweight it can be comfortably moved from one site to another. Extended legs dig down into the ground to give firm anchorage.
Height - sloping from back (18"/46cm high for the 4'/122cm long frames, 16" (41cm) high for the 3'/91cm frames) to front (15"/38cm high for the 4'/122cm long frames, 14" (35.5cm) high for the 3'/91cm frames).
Glazing - select either double-skinned polypropylene or polycarbonate. Glazed on all sides and the roof allows the passage of light from all sides to prevent young plants becoming drawn and leggy.
Access and Ventilation - a removable support bar and wind straps are provided to protect the three sliding top panels in extreme weather conditions. The panels slide freely in two channels giving easy ventilation adjustment and control and can be completely removed for good access.
Illustration shows the 4' x 3' Popular cold Frame glazed with polycarbonate.4mm double-skinned plastics are safe, shatterproof, virtually unbreakable and UV light stabilised for a long life.
The air gap between sheets of plastic provides effective insulation, helping to keep things warm in winter and cool in summer. These plastics allow good light transmission, giving a soft diffused light which reduces the chance of scorching and helps to encourage healthy plant growth.
