Identifying the parts and puzzling
out the instructions

Up and in position in the greenhouse

TwoWest's Photo of the
Greenhouse Workstation
Having built a couple of greenhouses on my plot, it was time to start fitting
them out. As with many things, the greenhouse does double duty as a potting
shed as well as growing shelter, so this seemed an ideal solution. In the
spring, you will be sowing and bringing on seedlings, usually on staging and
later in the year the borders come into their own as you plant out the tomatoes
etc.
The unique point on this workstation is that it can just be folded away when
you need every inch of growing space in the summer.
The box arrived and it was well packaged although the carrier had still managed
to bend the lip on one of the shelves. No big deal to straighten this though.
Assembly Instructions
One point I liked was that the instructions were in with the delivery note,
no searching through the box to find them. These were reasonable and written
in English, which is a refreshing change after trying to figure out those
wonderful instructions that have been written by someone in China who thinks
he speaks English!
All the parts were there, even a couple of spare nuts etc., so having checked
parts it was time to assemble.
Design & Construction
It was obvious that the engineer who designed it knew what he was about and
apart from one small, silly mistake, it went together quite easily. I've always
been a bit challenged when it comes to mechanical things, so that was no surprise.
The trickiest part was when it was assembled and I came to fix it up on the
side of the greenhouse.
Couple of Problems
The first problem is that both of my houses have relatively low sides and
it would be too low to be of much use fitted on the greenhouse side. By putting
it on the back wall, however, I could get it at a useful height.
Having decided where to put it, I realised that it was one of those jobs
where an extra pair of hands would be very useful. I still managed to get
it up though, balancing it on my knee to leave my hands free! Most amusing
for any observers, but it was pouring with rain outside, so there weren't
any.
The next problem is that when it folds away, the metal shelves block the
light. There is no way around this one so I think that, when the border comes
into use and I need the space, I'll actually take it off the wall, fold it
up and keep it in the shed. Probably not such a bad idea, as it stops me leaving
junk on the shelves all year.
Conclusions
Overall it is a well engineered product that should last for many years.
Despite the couple of problems listed above, I'm still very happy with it
and think it a useful addition to my greenhouse that will maximise the use
of space.
