New to the Allotment Web Site!
This is my new allotment diary and it’s a blog based system. Previously I’ve used a content system that I wrote some years back but I felt I needed something more and rather than re-inventing the wheel, I decided to use a pre-written system with more facilities.
It’s been a bit of a learning curve, some things are remarkably easy and others have been a bit confusing to say the least.
I’m not just going to use it as a diary, either. Sometimes I find I want to comment on things that are topical and probably of interest to allotment holders even if not strictly on topic. For example, the general price hike on vegetable seeds caused by the popularity of growing your own.
Another area will be to feature gardening products - new catalogues are arriving and I’m pleased to say they’ve got some really useful new tools and items to make for more productive growing.
Now this may seem a bit weird, but I’ll also be featuring new articles on the main web site. The reason is that with a large site, people often miss things. I notice on the allotment forums how often we’re asked the same question that I’ve already covered in an article such as How to Kill Horestail the most awful weed known to man.
The other ‘big thing’ I like about a blog is the ability for visitors to comment back. I’m always wary about allowing comments and posts. It seems the internet is full of low lifes who think we all want to buy their pills and get rich schemes but hopefully the anti-spam measures built in will keep things in order.
Well, two days work done. I just hope this works out as I think it will.
