Electric Jam Maker & Kenwood Chef
Val’s been looking at the latest Lakeland products and adding some of them into the cookware section of the allotment shop. She’s added just over a hundred products but these two are her current favourites – well we all dream!
Electric Jam Maker from Tefal
First there is an electric jam maker by Tefal. Tefal have been known as a quality brand for years, their non-stick saucepans are the ones where the non-stick doesn’t wear out in a year.
This jam maker is something we’d never seen before. It is to jam making as a bread maker is to bread making at home. It gives controlled results and automates the process, saving time and effort.
Since I’m the one who gets the task of cleaning up the pans after a jam making session, I’m impressed by the auto clean function and being able to bung everything else into the dishwasher.
If you want to make relatively small quantities of jams & marmalades easily and without the effort, this may be just the thing for you.
The Electric Jam Maker can be found on the Lakeland site here and there is a short video demonstration available here.
Kenwood Chef Titanium
Now Kenwood are the Rolls Royce of kitchen equipment and this is top of the top range. It’s the classic Kenwood shape, but in a shiny metal finish that will grace any kitchen with a powerful 1400 watt motor and does 0 to 60 in 4.2 seconds. OK, I added that last bit!
It’s got a 4.6 litre main mixing bowl with a range of beaters and mixers including the traditional ‘K’ beater, dough hook and the new Flexi Beater for soft cake mixes. It will cope with 6lb of cake ingredients or knead 4 3/4lb of bread dough.
It doesn’t stop there, of course, there’s a food processor unit that does all you would expect from a food processor and a liquidiser.
OK, it’s not cheap but it is something you buy once. We’ve a friend who uses her 20 year old Kenwood still.
The Kenwood Chef Titanium is on the Lakeland site here and there’s a video of it here.

Your friends Kenwood is relatively new! My Kenwood was purchased in 1953 given steady work, serviced in the mid 60’s and has worked steadily since then. She does puff and pant a little and smokes slightly, when the mixing of a heavy Christmas cake is required, but she squares her shoulders to the task and pushes on.
I think I need to get her serviced as her Christmas present this year.. then she will be ready for another fifty odd years!

I’m still working on that endurance level – mine has only done 10 years so far.
My mother’s, however, is currently on 42 years and counting!

Mine is brand new (a wedding present) and has been used just once so far to make cakes… I’m looking forward to using it for the next 60 odd years and experiencing its many wonders

We bought ours just before VAT on electrical goods went up to 25%, about 1971 I think, and it’s still going strong
