Thanks for the link, Laura.

Even here, a lot further south than Scotland, we're not safe from frost until June. I've been caught twice with runners getting frosted at the end of May.

You can translate your French carrot seed packet here http://babelfish.altavista.com/
& Firefox has translation add ons.

We've still lots to plant, ground hasn't been used for several years but it has been deep dug in the past. Offered it at beginning of April and been working on it every hour we can manage. Got lots of huge dandelion roots , more than I can use for dandelion coffee!

Here in south of Scotland have to protect from frost until mid May so priority has been making cold frames. Thanks to generosity of locals & newly made Freecycle friends we now have 2 large frames and a makeshift "lean to". Glad I've got the Anderson shelter to escape into during the hailstorms...

I think you've been lucky with the seed, parsnip seed is noted for only lasting one year.

I've never had much luck with loo rolls, although lots of people do.

Just thought you would like to know I used used toilet rolls to sow my parsnips this year useing what was left of last years Gladiator seeds which all came through but the new seed that I used of a different type did not do well! Last year I put the seed directly in the ground and only half of them came through and also it was diffcult to tell which were the weeds and which were the parsnips so this time they were in the greenhouse till two to three inches high then planted the whole rolls which degrade as time goes on, I do this with my peas and runner beans with great success

I know what you mean, Tracy. Just sticks to you and you do no good anyway.

Just grab any time you can when it's like this with the weather.

It's poured down all day so far in Oswestry too. With a heavy silty clay there is no chance to get on the allotment today. Never mind.
