New Style & More Poultry Articles
Site Re-Styled!
Not exactly new on the site but a new style to the site. When I first designed the allotment web site, the big thing was liquid design. This meant that the page filled the browser window without a horrible horizontal scrollbar appearing on smaller monitors.
It was a little harder as things might well move on the page depending on the visitor’s system but it worked well enough generally.
Since then things have moved on no end. Most people have larger monitors and the latest ones are like wide screen TVs. So now the style is changed to a fixed width floating in the middle and should be easy for everyone. There is no perfect solution, so I’ve just gone for what I think is best for the majority.
The newer pages are in a slightly different style but the site is more consistent now and I’ve altered the text font a bit and the colour, which should further help people read what’s there.
Allotment Shop
Over the last couple of weeks Val has been busy altering the allotment shop around. She’s basically finished now and it’s a lot easier to find things in the Garden Equipment section.
Compost Bins etc
There’s a whole new section for composters on compost bins, compost tumblers, wormeries, etc and Bokashi. The other major section added is Poultry Runs & Netting. We’re hoping to expand the poultry section to offer poultry housing and other equipment like feeders in the future.
Poultry Keeping Pages
Talking about poultry, the poultry pages went through the re-vamp process as well. There’s an awful lot of helpful information on there for the new backyard chicken keeper as well as experienced poultry keepers. Unfortunately it had become difficult to find anything so I re-did the poultry help & information pages. Now we have chicken keeping information on one page with Ducks, Geese, Quail & Turkeys etc on another. There’s a section on eggs, with more to come, including how to sell your surplus eggs and an explanation of the truth behind egg descriptions in the shops.
Lots more to come in the next few weeks!

this site gets better every time I read it. Wish I had longer. Is this urea stuff easy to find? never heard of that before!

Urea or Prilled Urea is pretty easy to get if you know a garden supplier that does supplies to the trade gardeners or suchlike. It costs a little more than sulphate of ammonia but the nitrogen percentage is 40% against 20% sulphate of ammonia so you only need half as much.
Careful with it, a little goes an awfully long way.
